I grew up in Simpsonville, South Carolina and studied History and Economics at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. I then moved abroad and have spent the past decade teaching English/Humanities in China and France. In 2020, I received my PhD from Université Paris-Saclay in Arctic travel literature with a focus on environmental themes in Alaska. ​
